Lilongwe City has a new Mayor Richard Banda

Malawi Congress Party -MCP- Councillor for Kaliyeka Ward Richard Banda has been elected as Mayor of Lilongwe City after defeating incumbent Mayor Juliana Kaduya.

Banda who until the elections was deputy mayor, got 13 Votes against 6 votes for Kaduya.

During the elections, councillor for Chimutu ward Ester Sagawa was elected deputy mayor.

In his acceptance speech, Banda said his first duty is to build the city for the benefit of the people with a bias towards sanitation and infrastructure development.

He among others thanked his fellow Councillors for trusting him with the noble task urging them to work with a unified purpose.

Malawi Congress Party -MCP- Councilor for Kaliyeka Ward Richard Band has Wednesday morning been elected as Mayor of Lilongwe City after he defeated incumbent Mayor Juliana Kaduya.

Banda who until the elections was deputy mayor, got 13 Votes against 6 votes for Kaduya.

During the elections, councillor for Chimutu ward Ester Sagawa has been elected deputy mayor.

On her part, the deputy mayor elect Ester Sagawa pledged to ensure that developmental policies are implemented in the city as delegated to her by the mayor.

Apart from outgoing Mayor Juliana Kaduya, on the position of mayorship Banda has also defeated Felix Tsokonombwe, and Rose Antonio all from MCP.

Sagawa has also flowed fellow MCP councilors on the deputy position…Lilongwe City Chief executive officer John Chome announced the results of the elections that were presided over by the Malawi Electoral Commission MEC.
