Reports circulating in various social media platforms are indicating that political activist and lead organizer of Malawi Salibwino demonstrations, Hon. Bon Kalindo aka Winiko has been advised by his family members to stop organizing national wide demonstrations.
Kalindo announced the suspension of the demonstrations to join Malawians that are suffering from the effects of Tropical Cyclone Ana which has led many people displaced, swept away by flooding waters, homeless and are being accommodated in schools.
He said the suspension of the demonstrations is a good gesture by the concerned citizens group that Malawians are together in times of sorrow and grief saying the same people affected by Tropical Cyclone Ana are the ones patronizing the demonstrations.
But, the announcement of the demos suspension, created room for mixed reactions, social media commentators suspected Kalindo to have pocketed money from the Tonse Alliance government to suspend the demonstrations.
Concerned Citizen’s group second in command, Levi Luwemba, has come in the open distancing himself from Kalindo’s announcement of suspending the demos claiming that Kalindo consulted no one in the group for the decision made.
Luwemba said the group is regretting for personalizing its activities as being led by Kalindo saying they have lately realized that a concerned citizen group cannot be led by one individual person advising Malawians to disregard the communication of suspending the demos.
He claimed to have been told by Kalindo himself that his family members have advised him to stop taking part in future demonstrations because government is frequently arresting him as a lead organizer of the demonstrations.
“To avoid fighting with Kalindo for the concerned citizen’s name, we have formed a new organization called Centre for Democracy Watch which will be organizing future demonstrations in the country,” Said Luwemba.
Meanwhile, social media commentators say Malawi freedom fighters are never trusted because they don’t fight for the rights of people but their own personal gain as evidenced by Kalindo moving from political activism to charity work.
The commentators say any freedom fighter comes after Kalindo will not be trusted by Malawians, they had trust in Kalindo who has been assuring them that he cannot be bought and he is ready to die and be arrested for his mother, Malawi, a thing which has been turned to be the opposite.
