On Thursday , Deputy Minister of Health, Enock Phale’s convoy was stoned by an unknown assailant at Bolero in Rumphi District.
Phale was in the district visiting some health facilities.
By the time of the incident, he had already visited Mwazisi Health Centre and was expected to visit Bolero health facility and later, Rumphi District Hospital.
Station Officer for Rumphi Police, Agrey Khonje confirmed the incident and says investigations are under way to track down the perpetrators.
A total of three vehicles including the Deputy Minister’s vehicle, MG310DM had their glasses smashed. Phale was later taken to Rumphi District Hospital for medical examination and immediately suspended his assignments in the district.
This behaviour of taking the law into your hands should be condemned. Hon Phale was on official duty and Police should hunt down every one who participated on the barbaric act.
Malawi is not a lawlessness state but rather a law abiding country.
I dont think it would be right to haunt and arrest them. What if the law was first broken by the vehicle users?? I would rather suggest that Police should look into the matter and come up with feasible layout as to what happened.
Law must take its cause
