The Tobacco Commission and the police last night impounded a truck with 52 bales of tobacco which were being smuggled into Zambia from Malawi, TC authorities have confirmed about the arrest.
TC Public Relations Officer Terforus Chigwenembe said the arrest was made following the anti-cross border tobacco trade operation which was conducted in Mkanda, Mchinji, where the truck was spotted transporting the leaf to Zambia.
Chigwenembe said Mchinji Police has since arrested a driver and another man, presumed to be the owner of the leaf.
“The two will be taken to court.” He said.
