They are likely to be charged with abuse of office, contrary to section 25 B(1) as read with section 34 of the corrupt practices act

The Ant Corruption Bureau ACB has arrested former minister of Homeland security Cecelia Chazama and five others for abuse of office.
In a statement signed by ACB’s Principal Public Relations Officer Egrita Mdala, the other five are Masauko Medi, former director general of the immigration and citizenship services, Pudensiana Makalamba, Chandiwira Chidothe(immigration officers of various positions) , Limbani Chawinga MP and Hilario Chimota, former principal secretary for the department of human resource management and development.
According to ACB, the arrest follows a complaint they received on 30th April 2018, alleging that the immigration department had recruited 210 immigration assistants who did not possess the required qualifications.
Part of the statement reads, “The bureau conducted investigations which established that the department of immigration had recruited 127 persons as immigration assistant although they did not have the necessary qualifications”.
ACB further said these people are expected to appear before the court after the bureau has interviewed them.
“They are likely to be charged with abuse of office, contrary to section 25 B(1) as read with section 34 of the corrupt practices act”. Adds the statement.
