Africa Union Regional 5 Games launch shifted to Friday

The much awaited Region 5 games launch which was slated for today has been shifted for tomorrow at the same venue which is BICC in the capital city Lilongwe.

Youth and Sports Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda briefed journalists in Lilongwe where he disclosed that launch of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Regional 5 games will unpack the importance of the games to the country and the rest of the African continent.

The Minister, who is also the Chairperson for the AUSC minister’s Committee said that the upcoming Regional 5 games are important because they will boost businesses in the country since over 2000 athletes from 16 countries will come to Malawi for games.
He said after holding a meeting with his fellow Ministers to enlighten them on the progress made regarding preparations on the upcoming games.
The Minister chaired the Ministerial Committee on the Regional 5 games and updated them on the state of preparedness regarding the under 19 games slated for December this year.
The Regional 5 Games are going to be launched tomorrow at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe. As required by the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) principles.
After holding the meeting, Minister Chimwendo Banda took members of the interministerial committe to the Griffin Saenda Sports Complex where some games will be held so that
Other Ministers who were in attendance inlcude the National Unity Minister Honourable Timothy Mtambo, Culture and Tourism Minister Honourable Michael Ussi, Homeland Security Minister Honourable Jean Sandra, Transport and Public Works Deputy Minister Honourable Nancy Mdooko and Justice and Constotutional Affairs Honourable Titus Mvalo.
