African first ladies meet in New York

African First Ladies through their forum, Organization of African First Ladies in Development (OAFLAD) on Tuesday September 20, 2022 held a high level meeting to bang heads on how to promote the activities of their organization.

Updating Malawians through her official Facebook page, First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera said among others, the meeting assessed the organization’s 2019 to 2023 strategic plan.

Madam Chakwera said the meeting took into consideration major achievements and limitations by the executive secretariat which is based in Ethiopia.

“We have agreed as African first ladies to focus on reproductive maternal and child health and gender equality and empowerment as our two key focus areas for the next two years. This is in addition to the work we are implementing in our respective countries,” reads part of the post.

Madam Chakwera said the meeting also made a follow up on decisions taken in Congo – Brazzaville in June this year through its steering committee.

Said the first lady who was part of the steering committee, “We as well held a discussion on OAFLAD strategic direction now that the organization has turned 20 years since its establishment.”

Madam Chakwera is in New York accompanying President Lazarus Chakwera who is in that country attending United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
