Chakwera appeals for Holistic Education in higher learning institutions

President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has reaffirmed his government’s unwavering support towards higher education institutions so long as they focus on offering meaningful and transformative education in the country.

Speaking at the graduation of 18 students and the Installation of Chancellor of the University of Blantyre Synod (UBS) the Malawi leader challenged the school as an institution of higher learning to not only impact knowledge and skills but also inculcate a culture of holistic approach that looks at the values the graduates leave behind and their own legacy.

The President further stressed the need for higher education institutions in the country to strive for quality, meaningful and transformative education which will ensure production of graduates that can develop this country through their life. He said his government is committed to offer all necessary support to the all learning institution so that the country attain the desired quality education.

On her part, the newly installed Chancellor of UBS, Reverend Edna Navaya, while expressing her gratitude for the Installation, said the Blantyre Synod will through the University comply with the call by the President through their core mandate of ensuring an approach to the students holistically by looking on their academic, social and physical part.

Speaking earlier, Synod’s General Secretary Reverend Billy Gama applauded President Chakwera for his servant leadership displayed in his support to the Blantyre Synod and the school. Gama further advised President Chakwera to continue serving Malawian satisfactorily so that when he retires on his second term, people with theological backgrounds can continue take over.

Blantyre Synod of the CCAP is the third to establish her university following Livingstonia in the North and Nkhoma in the central region.
