Chakwera Arrives in Glasgow for COP26

President Lazarus Chakwera on Saturday arrived in Glasgow for the COP 26 United Nations Climate Change Conference, hosted by the United Kingdom (UK) in partnership with Italy.

Upon arrival, the president was welcomed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Eisenhower Mkaka and Deputy High Commissioner of Malawi to the United Kingdom Quent Kalichero among others officials.

The president is accompanied by the first lady Madam Monica Chakwera who is also expected to attend a number of official meetings in her own capacity as the First Lady. 

The Conference is slated for 31 October to 12 November 2021 at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow, UK.

The COP Bureau re-scheduled the conference initially slated for November 2020,to ensures that all parties should focus on the issues to be discussed at this vital conference and allows more time for the necessary preparations to take place.

COP 26 is the biggest climate summit since the Paris Agreement was inked in 2015 and it is where countries are expected to increase their commitments to tackle climate emergency

Apart from the COP 26 conference President Chakwera is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with other officials.
