President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has secured $28 Million for the normalization of the fuel situation in the country.
Malawi has been facing fuel scarcity in all the regions for the past couple of weeks.
Chakwera met officials from the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) and Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) Tuesday evening to look at effective ways of resolving the current fuel shortage.
He has attributed the shortage to the draining forex reserves.
The President has since assured Malawians, 6 million litres of fuel is being imported into the country.
UTM Vice President Michael Usi aka Manganya is being vindicated over what he said at Nyambadwe Primary School Ground rally in Blantyre regarding sabotaging Government systems.
In his speech on Saturday, Usi said if things are going wrong, it is those in government that should fix such things while pointing fingers at Minister of Gender , Patricia Kaliati, and State Vice President Saulos Chilima.
Usi said that Malawians do not have problems but the problems lie with those in government.
Usi alleged that there are evil people in government who are deliberately frustrating the systems.
He mentioned for instance, that on August 31 2022 he was made aware that there are certain people at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services who are tampering with the network system which is causing people seeking services to get frustrated.
Usi said the same is happening with the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom).
“I heard the Minister of Energy [Ibrahim Matola] wept because of such. So, I called him to say he should never cry again. Instead, the one switching off electricity should be the one crying,” he said.
Usi recommended that those sabotaging government and frustrating the government machinery be removed and replaced with new people who can bring positive change.
He said government will find it hard to futfil its development agenda if such people remain.
Going by this speech, one may be tempted to think that National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) and Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) may fall under this trap.
Management of these organizations lied to Malawians that fuel shortages are due to Kizz Daniel’s show and some football games happening in the Lilongwe City.
Addressing a news conference recently MERA blamed fake news on fuel shortage and international artist Kizz Daniel for fuel shortages.
Kachaje said the sporadic fuel shortage will normalise soon since National Oil Company released one Million litres.
Kachaje further said MERA is working hand in hand with Petroleum Importers Limited and all stakeholders to have the fuel situation normalise.
NOCMA Deputy Chief Executive Officer Hellen Buruma said the situation will be normalised by the end of business, meaning that day.
Buluma said NOCMA was aware that for more than forty-eight (48) hours the country experienced sporadic location-based fuel shortages, especially in Lilongwe and parts of the central region which had led to panic-buying.
Buluma assured Malawians that the sporadic fuel supply situation is being corrected as product is being released from the Strategic Fuel Reserves as well as from other importers to ensure sustainable availability of fuel at all service stations in Lilongwe and throughout the country.
However, despite all those assurances, Malawi continues experiencing fuel shortages in several parts of the country.
Government through these boards should flush out all cadets frustrating Government systems. These cadets are trying hard doing everything to put Government spanners and pluck a stop batton.
Fuel according to experts is an engine of national economic development. All sectors are involved in fuel in one way or the other.
