President Lazarus Chakwera on Tuesday received a heroic welcome in the City of Mzuzu ahead of various engagements in the city including the continuation of crop inspection tours in some of the districts of the northern region.
People clad in Party colours from the ruling Malawi Congress Party and the alliance partners thronged the city to welcome their Leader.
Speaking during a stop over soon after arrival in the city, Chakwera did not hide that he was so happy for the warm welcome in the Northern region.
He said he is in the region for a number of duties as the State President of the country. Among others to see and hear for himself how things are in the region just as he has done with other regions.
“Our coming here is to see how things are here just as we have already done in the other regions. Knowing our country is going through a lot of challenges, but we have hope, because as a nation we must have hope that everything is possible,” said President Chakwera.
He said the visit is timely since he will be in position to understand how the region stands interms of food security and other economic and social factors.
“We have a lot of developmental issues to deal with as a nation, talk of roads network, factories, trade, agriculture, and many more, not forgetting how to transform Mzuzu City to a large modern City. We must also find out how we can deal with the continuous rise in the prices of commodities,” added President Chakwera while admitting that his government is aware about the challenges Malawians are passing through.
Then the President told the people of the North that Malawians deserve better, and assured them that they will soon get better as some challenges have already been addressed, some are in progress, and some will soon be done to make sure every citizen is self-reliant.
While in the North, President Chakwera is expected to hold a number of official engagements including conducting crop inspection tours and some developmental rallies.
Upon his arrival he was welcomed by Senior party officials and Cabinet Ministers.
Alliance for Democracy President Enock Chihana was also present to receive the Malawi Leader.
