The Malawi national football team, aka Flames has received a morale booster ahead of its last group B qualifiers match against Senegal in the ongoing Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Younde, Cameroon.
The motivation follows the announcement made by the State President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who has promised to flash out K1 million to each member of the Flames who will play in the game against Senegal, and K500, 000.00 each to the reserve squad on Tuesday at Kouekong stadium s
cheduled for 18:00hrs home time.
“His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi pledges to honour the Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, if they proceed to the next round in the Africa Cup of Nations’ match against Senegal scheduled for Tuesday, the 18th of January 2022.” Reads part of the press release we have in possession from President Chakwera, dated 17th January 2022 and signed by his Press Secretary Anthony Kasunda.
Malawi boosted its chances of proceeding to the next round after coming from behind to beat a fellow SADC region team (Zimbabwe) on Friday evening through a brace by Gabadihno Mhango which sent the whole nation in madness of celebrations.
The win by Flames last Friday left the team on 3 points.
Flames needs a win over Senegal to progress into the competition.
