Chakwera leads on austerity, cancels another foreign trip

President Lazarus Chakwera has cancelled attendance of yet another crucial meeting in Zambia as he personally leads by example in austerity measures his administration has put in place to rejuvenate the ailing economy.

President Chakwera was scheduled to travel to Zambia for an African Union Heads of State and Government summit which is scheduled to start on July 17, 2020.

A statement from the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation says President Chakwera is strictly and religiously adhering to austerity measures.

The statement says instead, minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo will represent President Chakwera at the summit.

The statement says today, Thursday, President Chakwera is leading Sadc’s Defence and Security summit through video link as one way of cutting on government travel expenses.
