President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has made over 200 new appointments in the public sector since his ascendancy to power, State House announced on Tuesday.
Speaking during the first State House quarterly media briefing in Lilongwe, State House Director of Communications Sean Kampondeni said the appointments are aimed at making government institutions and state agencies to function effectively.
“The president makes sure that governance institutions and agencies of the state are being led by capable men and women who can deliver on the mandate of these particular institutions,” said Kampondeni.
“From 2020 to towards 2021, you will find that if you take positions in the government from I believe it is positions that are within the grades of EP 4 and above, the president has made more than 200 appointments across governance machinery so sometimes when you hear people saying the president is not changing things in the government, it simply insn’t true.”
Apart from ensuring that all public institutions have competent human resource at their helm, the communications director added that the president has also seen to it that the institutions are fully funded.
“The president has always been a champion of the independence of governance institutions and one of the things that the president has done is to make sure that they are well resourced,” he emphasized.
“You can go to each of these institutions and find out how much the president has availed resources from the national budget for them to function effectively. I don’t think there is any institution of governance that can fault the president that he has not seen to it that they receive sufficient funding.”
