President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has taken a swipe at the graft busting body, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General on what the Head of State called a sub-standard Sattart report with rookie approach.
The ACB report demanded by the President three weeks ago contains names of some high profile individuals but the President, although he has acted on some of the names mentioned, was worried that the report lacks pertinent details.
He said the report did not contain enough details about Chief of Staff of State Residences Prince Kapondamgaga and Chairperson of Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets (PPDA) John Suzi-Banda.
President Chakwera expressed his frustration over the report on Tuesday evening when he addressed the nation on the report and his immediate actions.
He said it was unacceptable for the Bureau to come with such sub-
standard work especially considering the seriousness of the issues surrounding the report.
The Malawi leader has instructed the
Secretary to the office of President and
Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba to take disciplinary action against Suzi Banda
Chakwera has also fired the Inspector General of Police George Kainja.
On the Vice-President Saulos Chilima, the President says he will withhold any delegated duties from his office until the Bureau substantiates its allegations against him and decides on its course of action.
He has also suspended Kapondamgaga, although he said the report has no details as to how the Chief of Staff and the PPDA were involved in the corruption activities.
He also questioned the Bureau’s decision to share the report with the Speaker of Parliament and the Chief Justice, saying this too was unacceptable.
