Ahead of the handover of the Chairmanship of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Malawi President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has pledged his support to the incoming Chair Felix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
President Chakwera made the pledge in Kinshasa where the two leaders held a brief meeting ahead of Wednesday’s summit to share notes on critical issues happening in SADC region.
“I took this opportunity to thank him for affording us warm welcome and congratulate him in advance before I hand over the Chairmanship of the task ahead and pledged my untiring support towards his success,” said President Chakwera
Away from the SADC business, the two leaders engaged in a discussion on the bilateral relationship between the two countries. The two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in the areas of mining, agriculture, technology, trade and other areas of mutual interest.
“Closer home, we discussed ways to strengthen Malawi-DRC bilateral ties and cooperation and knowledge exchange in mining, agriculture, technology, trade and other areas of mutual interest,” said President Chakwera.
On a personal note President Tshisekedi expressed gratitude to President Chakwera for Malawi’s continued support in sending its troops to his war-torn country.
