Malawi President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera says his administration will never threaten anyone for holding dissenting views against government.
Speaking during a church service at Nkhoma CCAP Church in Lilongwe on Sunday, Chakwera said his administration is a listening government and is open for both advise and criticism.
“This is a listening government. Everyone has the right to criticize as well as advise their government. We will never threaten anyone for criticizing government,” emphasized the president.
Chakwera said his administration will also see to it that freedom of worship is upheld in the country.
“We will continue working with Nkhoma Synod and all other churches to ensure that freedom of worship continues to flourish,” he said.
He called on the clegy to keep praying for the country.
In his remarks, Nkhoma CCAP Church Moderator Phillip Kambulire said his church will continue working with government to help develop the country.
“As a church, our duty is to continuously pray for the leadership of this country so that peace prevails all the time. If we have peace, our duty to preach the gospel will be fulfilled without hindrances,” he said.
