The Flames start their campaign against Ethiopia before making a date with Guinea in Conakry four days later

President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera will be in attendance as Malawi National Soccer Team the Flames takes on the Walias of Ethiopia in a must win Africa Cup of Nations ( AFCON) qualifying encounter at the magnificent Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday, State House announced on Friday.
The move is aimed at giving the Flames massive support to burn the Walias and brighten their chances of qualifying for 2024 AFCON edition to be hosted by Ivory Coast.
The Flames start their campaign against Ethiopia before making a date with Guinea in Conakry four days later.
In another development, Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima is also expected to watch the match.
The Flames last played at Bingu Stadium in 2019 when they hosted Morocco. The match ended in a goaless draw.
The Flames have for decades used Kamuzu Stadium which is currently in bad shape as their home ground.
Recently, Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned the stadium from hosting international matches hence the decision to shift to Lilongwe.
