Malawi President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on Friday presided over the swearing in of Colleen Zamba as Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

Zamba was appointed on 31st May, 2022 as new SPC replacing Zanga Zanga Chikhosi who has been assigned to other duties.

Speaking at the occasion, Chakwera said the position is instrumental to the implementation of various government policies as well as presidential programs to the public.

The president said the position is also paramount in the efficient and professional delivery of public services to Malawians.

“Additionally, the SPC supports and advises the president in the management and security of strategic sectors of the economy, ensuring that none is left at the mess of cartels driven by selfish interests that keep Malawians poor and exploited,” said the president.

He told the newly appointed SPC that the position requires a person of great courage because it is tasked with changing cultures that alot people don’t want to change.

Chakwera emphasized that the position also requires person of great humility, honesty, and great fortitude.

“Even the people that praise and support you today, do not realize that there are things in this country that need to change, that they themselves will not want to change, and today applause may turn to attack when the day comes for you to effect the change that affects them,” added the president.

Chakwera expressed optimism that Zamba is fully capable of withstanding pressure, discredits, or conspiracy against her in the course of carrying out her daily duties.
