Fighting between the Congolese army and M23 rebels has resumed in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s North Kivu Province after a week of relative peace.

The Congolese Tutsi rebel group recently relaunched attacks against government forces, sparking diplomatic tensions between DRC and Rwanda over allegations of official support for the rebel group — claims Kigali denies.

On multiple occasions, DRC President Felix Tshisekedi stated that “there is no doubt that Rwanda backs the M23 to come and attack the DRC.”
