Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)-backed District Commissioner (DC) for Nsanje, Dr. Medson Matchaya, has mobilized his sponsoring party councilors to fight and block his posting to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH).
Last week, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development announced the posting of nine DCs to general duties as it moved others to other districts in an exercise the ministry described as normal.
While others have humbly accepted their fate, Matchaya – who was appointed DC by Kondwani Nankhumwa during the DPP regime – has mobilized councilors from his sponsoring party to block his transfer to QECH.
The councilors have since vowed to block his re-assignment. A source at Nsanje District Council confided that the councilors are planning to write Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Professor Blessings Chinsinga, to rescind the decision.
“Matchaya is resisting a posting instruction because he knows the rot he has planted at the Nsanje District Council. ACB could help the people of Nsanje if they went to audit GESD, DDF and CDF projects. Because of the rot, Matchaya is using the council to shield his unwarranted stay as the DC for Nsanje,” said the source.
