European Investment Bank sponsors President Chakwera’s road projects

President Lazarus McCarthy Chawera’s development agenda is getting seals approval from various donor partners.

Latest is the European Investment Bank which has given a nod to release a whooping sum of funds for the rehabilitation of some roads in the country.

According the ministry of transport spokesperson Kelvin Sato on Wednesday the EIB approved the release of 177 Euros for the rehabilitation of M1 road from Kamuzu International KIA roundabout stretching through Kasungu, Mzimba to Chiweta in Chitipa district.

‘’On Wednesday the EIB gave sanctioned the release of 117 million Euros which is equivalent to K126 billion Kwacha towards rehabilitation of M1 road from KIA roundabout as a starting point. The rehabilitation will pass through Kasungu and Mzimba boma to Chiweta in Chitipa district.” Said Sato

Some of the contractors to be in the project includes Jiangxi Transport Limited, Mota Engil and Unik Construction Engineering Private Limited.

This flagship project is in line with President the just launched Secondary Cities which seeks to create urbanization in different rural areas parts of the country President Chakwera will officially launch the launch of the project on July 5 this year.

This project adds to a number of road projects being undertaken across the country.

Currently the mega six-lane is under way in Lilongwe which will not only add beauty to the capital City but will ease traffic and facilitate trade
