Flooding situation in Karonga

Karonga District has been receiving heavy rains for the past three weeks leading over flooding of some rivers. The floods have damaged fields of crops, several houses and road infrastructure including Kyungu bridge along the Karonga -Songwe Border on M1 Road and is currently impassable.

Last year the same bridge got damaged and three people died after the vehicle they were travelling in fell into the river. Members of District Civil Protection Committee (DCPC) have been busy assessing the extent of the damage following the flooding.
