Government to rehabilitate water infrastructure across the conuntry

Aug 3, 2022

Government through the ministry of water and sanitation is set to rehabilitate water infrastructure across the country to ensure access to clean and affordable water for all malawians.

Deputy minister of water and sanitation, John Bande said this in Parliament when responding to a supplementary question from member of parliament for Mzimba South Constituency, Emmanuel Chambulanyina Jere on the water status in Malawi and his constituency.

Jere expressed concern over whereabouts of some of the money meant for water infrasture development in his constituency.” I am not aware of how money that was allocated in the 2021/2022 budget for feasibility study for water projects in my area was used,” queried Jere.

In his response Bande, who is also member of parliament for Balantyre City East, said he will find out more and revert with an appropriate response.

In January 2022, the Chakwera administration established a stand-alone-ministry of water and sanitation to specifically develop, manage, and promote water and sanitation policy and infrastructure.

In April this year, the MCP led government rolled out the free water connection program with over 13 thousand households expected to benefit from the program yearly.
