President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera said he will not use his Presidency to shield anyone regardless of their closeness to him. President Chakwera said this on Tuesday at the official presentation of the Arch Group Insurance Payout at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
The state President retaliated that under his servant leadership he will ensure that no one is above the law regardless of his standing in society.
‘’As I said, Instead of allowing the rich, the powerful and the connected to live above the law as was the in the past I would promote and practice the rule of law so that we begin to make Malawi a more equal and just society, and I have done that,” said the President.
The Malawi leader said he promised to remove from office individuals implicated in corruption and that is what he has demonstrated so far by dismissing some public officers implicated in the Anti-corruption Bureaus (ACB) report.
“I said that instead of using the Presidency to weaken institutions and shield the corrupt as others did in the past, I would strengthen institutions and remove from office those implicated in corruption cases and I have done that,” said the President.
Last week President Chakwera withheld delegated responsibilities to his Vice President Soulos Klaus Chilima and sacked the Inspector General of Police George Kainja and further suspended his Chief of Staff Prince Kapondamgaga after being implicated in the Zuneth Sattar’s corruption case.
