‘Short of words’ was the appropriate shared description by legislator for Chikwawa Nkombedzi Constituency, Abida Mia who is also Deputy Minister of Lands and the Inspector General of Police Dr George H. Kainja, during their speeches at Ngabu Police Post in Chikwawa on Wednesday, as on behalf of Malawi Police Service, they received 3 vehicles from Illovo Sugar Company Limited and its collaborative partners.
Guests at the ceremony also witnessed the Police IG officially commissioning Ngabu Police Post, which was renovated by the same donor, Illovo Company.
In her speech, Abida Mia beamoned increased cases of various forms of crime like cattle rustling, Cross boarder Human and Child Trafficking and Gender Based Violence hence, applauded the donor by saying, “the donation of vehicles would assist the police in the district to reduce crime, as with the good means of transport at their disposal, they would now work effectively.
According to Illovo, the cost of the 3 vehicles is K60 Million while the cost of renovating Nchalo Police Station and Ngabu Police Post is K18 Million.
It was shared that in both donations, Illovo had collaborated with two of its partners, Unitrans and Garda World.
The request, that prompted Illovo and partners to come up with the above mentioned donations, was made by Abida Mia in her capacity as Member of Parliament.
Mia had a few weeks earlier donated office furniture to Ngabu Police Post, which she had purchased with money from her pocket.
Of the 3 vehicles, 2 (a Tata Pick up and a Land Cruiser) have been be allocated to Chikwawa Central Constituency whose MP is Salimu Bagus while 1 Tata pickup vehicle has been allocated to Ngabu Police Post.
The donations have been presented as part of corporate social responsibility by Illovo Sugar Company.
