Inkosi Yamakosi M’Mbelwa V has commended President Lazarus Chakwera’s government for changing the financial year to start from April 1st.
M’Mbelwa said this at the development rally at Emvuyeni in Mzimba district.
Inkosi Mbelwa noted that there was short period between the beginning of the new financial year and the onset of the rainy season which affected crop production.
The Ngoni Chief further asked the Ministry of Agriculture to sort out the problems that have affected this year’s Affordable Inputs Program.
He said: “The AIP is a good program and must be continued, the only problem is that it has been rocked with number of logistic difficulties.”
M’mbelwa went on to highlight some of the problems rocking the program.
‘’Selling points have not been close to a majority of people as a result, people travel long distances to access the fertilizer.
Again, even after travelling long distances people could only find one type of fertilizer or not any at all.”
The chief thus appealed with the ministry to address the problem before the next farming season commences.
Inkosi Mbelwa also expressed his gratitude to the Malawi leader for taking the initiative to visit farmers and appreciate the food situation in the country.
At the rally, he reaffirmed his unwavering support to President Chakwera’s government. He stressed that there is one president at a time and that as a traditional leader he supports the government of the day and will help the President fulfil his development programs.
President Chakwera is in the Northern region continuing his crop inspection program.
He has so far been to Chitipa and Karonga districts as well.
On Saturday he will inspect crops in Rumphi and is expected to wrap up the tour with a visit to Nkhatabay.
