Justice Mwaungulu backs Kalumo appointment

A seasoned retired Justice  of Supreme Court of Appeal Dunstan Mwaungulu has hailed President Dr Lazarus Chakwera for appointing retired Brigadier General Charles Kalumo as the new head of Immigration.

Writing on his Facebook page, Mwaungulu described Kalumo as a hardworking person and very professional.

“We worked together at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. I found him there.

“He was a top security and immigration officer responsible for seeking victims, witnesses and suspects. A very able and capable man that would bring and add rare expertise apart from his success and elevation to Brigadier,” said Mwaungulu.

President Chakwera in exercise of his powers under section 89 of the Constitution recently made new appointments in the public service.

In a press statement signed by the Secretary to President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba the appointments are with immediate effect.

The new appointments include Ireen Mayeso Chikapa as Secretary for Civil Service Commission, Engineer Alfonso Chikuni as Secretary for Energy and Engineer Geofrey Mamba as new Principal Secretary (irrigation services) ministry of Agriculture.

Further, Medrina Mloza Banda has been appointed Principal Secretary in the ministry of Agriculture responsible for technical services, Alfred Mwenifumbo as Controller of Agricultural extension and technical services and Godwin Gideon Kaonongera as Principal Secretary responsible for finance in the office of the President and Cabinet.

Brigadier General Kalumo has been appointed Director General for the Department of Immigration.
