Malawi Police hunting for Bon Kalindo Aka Winiko

Malawi Police headquarters area 30 has issued a wireless message instructing all regions to arrest Bon Kalindo who is Concerned citizens Chair for insulting head of state.

This follows issuance of Warrant of arrest obtained today with Lilongwe Magistrate Court Registry. Winiko has been leading trail of demonstrations to force Government address challenges being faced.

In a written statement signed by Malawi Police Service Public Relations Officer DCP James Kadadzera, Winiko is urged to surrender himself over to Blantyre Police for insulting the President.

During Friday demonstrations, Winiko insulted Malawi President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and his Vice Saulos Chilima.

“The Malawi Police Service (MPS) confirms of an existing warrant of aest against Mr. Bon
Kalindo for an offence of Insulting the President contrary to section 4 of Protected Flags, Emblems and Names Cap. 18.03 of the Laws of Malawi. On January 21, 2022 at Blantyre District Commissioner’s office in the City of Blantyre while addressing demonstrators, Mr. Kalindo used insulting words to the President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Dr. Lazarus MacCarthy Chakwera Mr. Kalindo is therefore wanted by he police in Blantyre. He may as well surrender himself.
As we have been stressing. the Service remains committed to respecting the freedom of assembly
and peaceful demonstrations. Furthermore, the Service is duty bound to fulfil its constitutional mandate of investigating crimes including those occurring during peaceful demonstrations.” Reads the statement.
