The Youth and Sports Minister Honourable Richard Chimwendo Banda has just wrapped his official engagements with private institutions on the planned sports indaba to be held within the next seven days.

The Minister met various Blantyre based corporate institutions so that they discuss how they can work with government in developing sports in the country.

The youthful Minister, who is also the leader of the House in Malawi Parliament, set aside three days for meeting business captains in the private sector ahead of the magnificent sports indaba.

Just to mention a few, some of the institutions he visited include Coca-Cola Malawi, Old Mutual, NICO Holdings Limited, Gaming Board and National Bank of Malawi.

In a meeting which he had with Malawi Council of Sports officials on Tuesday this week, the Honourable minister  said he organised the meeting in order to fulfil his vision to have an annual event dubbed ‘Sports Indaba’- a day which he said will be bringing companies and organisations on a round table discussions about sporting issues.

Few days after President Lazarus Chakwera appointed him as Minister of Youth and Sports early February this year, Honourable Chimwendo Banda challenged officials in the Ministry to make sure that the sports indaba is held as the first step in developing sports in the country.

The Minister was accompanied by his Principal Secretary Mr. Isaac Katopola, the Director of Sports Mr. Jameson Ndalama and the sports legend Kinner Phiri who was the coach when the Flames swamped Algeria with 3-0 in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) that took place in Democratic Republic of Congo in 2010.

Aside his official engagements, Honourable Banda who is also the director of youth in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) interacted with the MUBAS (formerly the Polytchnic) party supporters on Tuesday evening and the University of Malawi (formerly Chancellor College) party supporters in Zomba on Wednesday evening.

According to some of the supportersbwho spoke in a brief meeting they had, the interaction he had with them was an opportunity for the party to strengthen its structures at all corners of the country including institutions of higher learning.
