“I had an interface meeting with some residents of Area 49 New Shire. We got reports of of land grabbing and swiftly went there to appreciate what was taking place. The land in question was designated for school and community clinic,” said Gumba.
The deputy lands minister said his visit established that officials from Lilongwe City Council and other MDAs were at the centre of the unfortunate act .
“Illegal acquisition of land will not be tolerated,” warned Gumba.
“I emphasized that rule of law does not know to which political party one belongs or where one works, when you are on the wrong side of it, you will be treated as such.”
Gumba has since assured the community members and their block leaders that the land remains theirs and that government will play its role to facilitate that either a school block or a clinic is constructed on the land according to the wishes of the residents in line with the master plan.
