The legislator for Mzimba Luwerezi constituency, Sam Chirwa has disclosed plan to construct girls’ hostels in all Community Day Secondary Schools (CDSS) around his area.
Chirwa disclosed this on Monday when he was inspecting a place to construct Chibandawuka CDSS girls hostel.
According to him, he has already started constructing some girls’ hostels at Luwerezi secondary school and next is Chibandawuka CDSS.
He said the aim is to improve girls education in his jurisdiction after noticing that many were dropping out.
“I have been receiving report that many girls are failing to continue with their education due to long distances. That’s why I decided to construct hostels in all secondary schools,” he said.
In her remarks, Chibandawuka CDSS head girl, Johana Ngwenya while thanking the MP for the development said this will motivate girls to work hard.
Ngwenya who said five girls dropped out at their school only this term due to unwanted pregnancy, said she believes that the development will be a history.
According to, in their way to school, they are meeting with number of temptations such as the motorbikes taxi who ask for sex as token to carry them.
“Honestly, long distances have affected number of girls here. To the extent that we started regarding that education is for boys. But with the MP’s initiative, I believe that many girls will finish their secondary school education,” she disclosed.
The headmaster of the school also confirmed about the development.
