The long-awaited construction of Mzuzu Youth Centre gets underway this month.
This follows the handing over of the construction site in Mzuzu by the Ministry of Sports to DEC Construction Company.
Speaking during the handover ceremony Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Oliver Kumbambe, said the construction of the modern facility demonstrates government commitment to distribute taxpayers’ funded projects equally in every part of the country.
“The construction of this state-of-the-art recreation facility signify government’s commitment to spread taxpayers’ funded projects in every part of the country.
The northern region contributes a lot of talent to the national stage like the national football team and national netball team but it has been neglected for a long time in terms of sports facilities,’’ said Kumbambe.
Among other features, the sports complex will be equipped with an indoor and outdoor facilities such as Netball, Volleyball, Basketball and Tennis Courts.
The K9.3 billion flagship project is being funded by the Malawi government.
Even more exciting is the fact that the facility will be constructed by a local company which is another commitment by government to encourage the growth of indigenous business.
