President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has earned rare praise from a cross section of Malawians for allowing chiefs to be open and frank in their speeches during the highly successful crop inspection tours.

This follows frank and open pieces of advice by some chiefs during the crop inspection tours the President is undertaking across the country.

Malawians have taken up to various social media platforms to heap praises to President Dr Chakwera, calling him a democrat at heart.

They say his predecessors used party machinery to intimidate and dictate to chiefs what to say during presidential rallies and in most cases they just praised the leaders.

In Mzimba, Inkosi ya Makosi M’Mbelwa told the President that people are not happy with the slow pace of campaign promises implementation.

In response, President Dr Chakwera said some development projects are frustrated by some government officials.

During the previous Democratic Progressive Party regime, chiefs who were critical of professor Peter Mutharika and his administration were harassed and assaulted by DPP cadets.

Social media activists say what President Dr Chakwera is doing is unprecedented.
