President Chakwera to visit Switzerland

President Lazarus Chakwera who is currently in Brussels, in the Kingdom of Belgium for 6th African Union – European Union Summit is expected to travel to Switzerland on Saturday this week for an official working tour.

According to the communication from the State House in our possession, President Chakwera will leave Belgium through Brussels International Airport on Saturday, February 19,2022 for Switzerland.

The communique further states that President Chakwera is currently in Brussels for among other duties to attend the AU – EU Summit which has started on Thursday, February 17 and will run to Friday, February 18,2022.

The Summit in Brussels is expected to discuss the Climate Change,and Education among the agenda, and writing on his facebook page before departure for Brussels, President Chakwera said he will use the advantage of attending the Summit to lobby for continued support from key partners mainly on climate change mitigation and management.

“This has become an area of national interest in the wake of recent devastation from Tropical Storm Ana,” Read part of his message of the page.

He was also optimistic that the Summit will offer renewed opportunities between African Union and the European Union of redesigning their partnership that yields into shared growth and prosperity for the people.

Apart from Climate Change and Education, the Summit is also expected to discuss issues to do with green energy transformation, agricultural sustainability, trade, digital connectivity, transport, health as well as peace and security.

Beside attending the AU – EU summit, President Lazarus Chakwera is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Her Excellency Jutta Urpilainen who is the Commissioner for International Partnership on Thursday before holding another bilateral meeting with the Minister – President of the Flanders, His Excellency Jan Jambon on Saturday.
