Salima Sugar Company Limited has commenced full scale sugar production as one way of bridging existing sugar shortage in the country which saw prices jumping upwards Malawi Exclusive can reveal.
Company Authorities says the company started production on 11 May, 2022 to meet the current demand for sugar that has hit the country.
In a statement, the company said following the development customers are now able to buy Salima sugar on the market.
“We have taken note with concern as regards to the scarcity of sugar on the market. We would urge our customers to access our sugar which is available in all out lets.”. Reads the statement.
The company further said that initially, production is decided by the end of rainy season with a grace period for the soil to dry and the serial ripening of the cane crop.
“However, to address the severe shortages that his the country, we have commenced sugar production by 11th May 2022. This has helped us plan distribution to cover the country by the end of May 2022”. Adds part of the statement.
The unsteady sugar supply in some parts of the country recently has seen an increase in the price of the commodity as some traders took advantage of the situation to inflate the prices.
