President Chakwera will go into the Malawi History as a leader who worked tirelessly to decongests the Malawi cities.

Economists have held Chakwera as a transformative leader with zeal of changing this country once for all.

Malawians now feel that as a country Malawi is lucky to have metamorphic and cathartic leader in the name of Dr Lazarus Chakwera. Ordinarily, during pick hours, a drive between Lilongwe Old Town and City Centre would take two hours but with the extension this has been reduced just to 20 Minutes.

President Lazarus Chakwera commissioned the six lane project late last year saying as a Capital City, Lilongwe deserves better attention.

Chakwera said his administration’s commitment to upgrading Mzimba Street and Kenyatta Drive- connects Lilongwe Old town and the City Centre – into triple carriage way is a sign of good commitment towards transformative leader.

The project which commenced on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 will take 18 months and to be ready for use by February 23, 2023. The project is worth about K19 billion.

Political analyst Mustapha Hussein has commended government efforts to extend the road arguing that good roads are so crucial in the social economic and political development of any country.

Hussein said the project will increase productivity and stabalise economy.

He said that there is alsways a saying that time is money and the more time lost in travelling the more money lost.

“Roads, and means of transport, make a crucial contribution to economic development and growth and bring important social benefits. Poorly maintained roads are not friendly to development so in this case the expansion of these roads in all major cities will have huge economic benefits,” he said.
