Tonse Alliance partners vow to support Chakwera address the country’s challenges

The Alliance Partners will intensify their periodic meetings with immediate effect and do their utmost to safeguard the Alliance

Tonse Alliance partners have agreed to continue working together and supporting President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera in pursuit of their agenda to uplift the welfare of Malawians as promised during the campaign.

A statement issued after the Tonse meeting which took place on Friday at Kamuzu Palace, described the meeting, participated by all the nine leaders fully, as cordial frank and free.

Apart from resolving to the continued mutual cooperation among members for the good of the nation, the alliance agreed to continue fulfilling the campaign pledges mainly by focusing on addressing the socio-economic challenges in the country.

‘’Tonse Alliance partners met on Friday, 24th June 2022, at Kamuzu Palace at the behest of the State President, His Excellency Dr Lazurus McCarthy Chakwera in his capacity as the leader of the Alliance.

“All nine Partners were Present and fully participated in the discussion. After the deliberations, which proceeded in a free, frank, and cordial manner, the following resolutions were unanimously: the alliance Partners will uphold and abide by the alliance and continue to work together for the good of the Malawian people,’’ reads the statement.

The statement further says the Tonse Alliance leaders agreed to meet periodically and they will do their best to safeguard the Alliance.

‘’The Alliance Partners will intensify their periodic meetings with immediate effect and do their utmost to safeguard the Alliance by promoting and undertaking all necessary actions and innervations for strengthening the bond of cooperation among and between them,” reads the statement.

The Tonse Alliance is a party alliance led by president Chakwera’s Malawi Congress Party (MCP) which defeated the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the 2020 elections. Some of the notable parties in the alliance are UTM and People’s party (PP).
