Back in late 2018 and early 2019 UTM was a highly thought political party. Many people thought the party was destined for greatness but years down the line UTM is on course for extinction.
The party whicch at its birth was considered a threat to both MCP and DPP has failed to take off and has mismatched its initial hype.
The pomp the party once had has died down and it appears that they have hit the dead end. It no longer attracts new nembers.
In these years the party has lost so many valuable members than they have gained, if at all they managed to gain any.
The party has faced mass exodus and has lost most of its pioneers in the process. Some of the notable faces who have quit the party are Richard Makondi, Bon Kalindo, Chidanti Malunga, Jessie Kabwira, Frank Mwenifumbo and others.
Lately, the party has decided to fill the vacant positions vacated by some of these people.UTM has limited options in terms of capable personel to fill these vacant positions as result they are just promoting every Jim and Jack.
Recent appointment of Khwesi Msusa as Director of Operations and Sam Chirwa as his deputy and Loveness Gondwe as Deputy Director of Elections speaks volume of the difficulties the party finds itself to attract new members.Msusa is just one of Saulos Chilima’s errand boys, as for Loveness Gondwe, she is a politician who has outlived her relevance.Am not sure if any of these people have what it takes to perform the tasks they have been assigned to.
Talking about the high profile politicians who have ditched the party, as expected they have all tried to put a diplomatic lid on the the reasons for quitting the party by saying they want to concentrate on their business or their professions but from simple logic one can tell that these people have grown frustrated with lack of leadership and knows that the party.
