Zimbabwe(senior team) has registered it’s first win against Namibia after getting 48 baskets against 36 in the opening match for the COSANA tournament being played at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences KUHES sports complex.
In the first quarter the team managed to get 14 baskets against their rivals 9 and maintained a lead to the second quarter which ended 24 against 16 in their favor.
Come third quarter Namibia continued to struggle as Zimbabwe maintained their ball possession and defended their lead ending third quarter 37-24.
However, in the fourth quarter Namibia kept on fighting for a come back although their opponents defended their lead ending the game 48-36 in favor of Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki said this is a motivation to his side as the tournament continues.
“They played a very good game and it’s a very good start for us. This is a very tough tournament and if you manage to get a win it’s a motivation to team Zimbabwe. We are expecting to have more wins and if we manage to get two or three wins it’s a good result to us”. He said.
On her part Namibia Head Coach Sunette Burden said their loss today will help them to identify gaps and analyse what to improve on their side.
“The comeback was tremendous in the fourth quarter, they were quick in decision making and they never let go and kept on fighting. Score rate was high, working rate was high.
We rank 22 compared to Zimbabwe which is 12 i think so we are here to improve our ranking games as well. We still also have time to prepare for the Africa nation cup so the ultimate goal is to improve our ranking and atleast qualify for the world cup”. She said.
